Who we are

Objectives of the RDM Portal

This internet-based portal is hosted by the InWEnt divisions “Rural Development, Food and Consumer Protection“ and „Natural Resources and Biodiversity“. It´s purpose is to support the creation of a network for Regional Development and Market Integration (RDM) mainly for the participants and partner institutions of the InWEnt programmes in the Central and Eastern European Countries and the New Independent States. There is also a public area with relevant information for the general interested public. The InWEnt programmes covered so far in this portal are:

  • Market Integration and Competiveness in Food Industry (South Eastern Europe, 2005-07)
  • EU-Integration of Rural Economic Areas (South Eastern Europe, 2005-07)
  • Regional Cooperation in the Caucasus and Central Asia (2005-07)

The main objective of the RDM portal is to promote networking both for regional and cross-border cooperation and for the exchange of experiences among individuals, institutions and organisations. It also serves as a learning platform using “e-learning” and “blended learning” methodologies to enhance the learning processes within the InWEnt programmes complementing the face-to-face training and policy dialogue.

InWEnt - Department for Environment, Natural Ressources and Food

The Environment, Natural Resources and Food Department consists of three divisions, based in Feldafing on Lake Starnberg (Bavaria), in Leipzig Zschortau (Saxony) and in Berlin. Each of the competence centers has its own particular specialization which complements and enhances the others.

We offer human resources and organizational development for emerging, developing and transformation countries on three levels:

  • Individual: fostering decision-making and action competence for specialists, executives and future executives,
  • Organizational: strengthening the performance of organizations in the public and private sector,
  • System: shaping the institutional settings through policy dialogue and the creation of learning networks and communities.
Our range of professional development opportunities target five key areas:
  • Change Management
  • Environment and Natural Resources
  • Waste, Wastewater and Solid Waste
  • Energy and Climate Protection
  • Rural Areas

We see quality as a long-term commitment. Our Quality Management System is based on DIN EN ISO 9001:2000.

Division 5.02: Natural Resources and Biodiversity

Natural resources are crucial for economic and social development. They have an intrinsic value and are considered a global good. The world community stated this in Rio in 1992 and reaffirmed it in 2002 at the Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development. The sustainable use of natural resources will not only determine the development options of future generations; it is also a decisive factor in overcoming poverty today. This is the critical challenge the world community is facing. It is the responsibility of governments, civil society and the private sector altogether to implement strategies for the sustainable use of natural resources. Meeting these responsibilities require the skills of executives and specialists in all these sectors. The key to implementing assertive policies and effectively managing the protection and sustainable use of natural resources thus lies in the development of human capital, their organisations and institutions. – This is the mandate of the Natural Resources and Biodiversity Division in Leipzig-Zschortau. Its 15 staff members bundle their professional, regional, didactical and intercultural expertise to address the following issues:

  • Biodiversity – The most “natural” capital investment
  • Regional resource and ecosystem management – Riches lie in nature
  • Resource policy – Making things possible
  • EU harmonisation and EU integration process for a peaceful, prosperous Europe

Regional Strategy Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe

The regional strategy of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe aims at helping these states make the difficult economic and social transition. The independence of these states and their development towards democracy, the rule of law, and a market economy are vitally important for stability and security in Europe.
