5.1 The Local Development Pilot Project on Skadar Lake

The excursion to the Skadar Lake was aimed to show an approach to Regional Rural Development of a SEE country. The Republic of Montenegro has set up a management unit to support the sustainable development of the Skadar Lake located at the Skadar Lake Information Centre on the main road between Podgorica and Brag at the seaside.
The management unit organizes events – such as the Skadar Lake Day – trying to involve the local communities and different actors along the lake in their work. The future perspectives of the management unit are the sustainable tourism development and coordination of initiatives around the lake financed by different donor organizations. The elaboration of a “Regional Development Strategy” is in progress.
